Wake Up! Wake Up!

Standard

This is what our bedroom ceiling usually looks like.

This is what it currently looks like.

I went to turn off the ceiling fan this morning and the whole kit and caboodle pulled out of the ceiling, and very nearly landed on my head!    That’s guaranteed to wake you up!

I moved to the side, and it fell onto the bed, but not before I let out quite a shriek.  Prince Charming came running.  Maximus Cat fluffed and ran.  No one else was upstairs at the time.

I’m thinking the fan suffered structural fatigue – the plastic bracket looks like it either cracked or spread.  I haven’t gotten up-close and personal to check.  This is the second time a ceiling fan has had issues.  The first time was a couple years back; no one was in the room at the time when it dislodged.  I saw it hanging by a couple wires.  We fixed the ceiling bracket and all went well.

Now, I’m wondering if newer fans have a different mounting mechanism, that would prevent this from happening in the future.  Is it time to replace all of them?  This is Cactusville, after all, and ceiling fans are a necessity.

  1. I am so glad you didn’t end up with a weird “hat” on your head. Our living room fan is on 24/7 and has been running for 9 years now. It’s rarely turned off, mostly just for cleaning. It’s turned on from a wall switch though so no tugging. They really shouldn’t break but things as you know, are made so much more cheaply these days.

  2. I THINK I WILL START WEARING A HARD HAT AROUND MY PLACE. THAT IS REALLY SCAREY. . CAN YOU TEACH THE PAWS TRIBE TO DIAL 911?? aLL THE FANS HERE HAVE A PULL CHAIN WITH THEM TOO.
JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHNG. . . IF IT FELL AND CAUSED INJURY IS THERE A LAWSUIT POSSIBLE HANDLED BY OUR SACRAMENTO ATTORNEY?
