Goddess

Standard

IMG_1554This little lady is a brooch.  She’s so serene looking, she must be a goddess.  Possibly from a civilization that had a fine appreciation of geologic artifacts.

I’m not sure what the stone is.  This is a birthday gift for someone who’s a rock hound, so I am hoping she will know.  Or have fun doing the research to find out.  The face is some sort of carved and polished bone; not real ivory, as that is no longer available.

Another piece of whimsy.  I enjoyed making this pin.  Intricate, without being difficult.  That’s a rare ocurence!

Both pieces have a peyote bezel affixed to a backing.  The pin, and some additional supportive material is then adhered.  Next it was time to go around and embellish.  A nice halo of lentil beads, with a light pink accept from size 15ºs.  You can see a bit of thread showing in the last row of the bezel.  I do this for added strength, to insure that nothing pops out.  It seems a good trade off – a bit more visible thread brings added security.
